it was one sparkle in your eye

Yesterday, I had nothing better to do
so I read the stars like the morning news
they said I should trust my gut
thought it couldn’t hurt
so I went with it awhile
Went out and danced like I was drunk
I’ve been in a funk these past few months

and all I could do
was smile

this morning, time was on my side
I grew up, and tonight I’m blue

Fell asleep with grey clouds in my eyes
let out a thousand hopeless sighs
the world can’t go back
to white and black
after that
Sat down on the living room floor
time was running out, I said “I want more”
but we’re not even friends
we’re right at the start
still haven’t made it
to the best part

But you put the book down
it was too long
you live a busy life
and it moved on
Tomorrow morning, you’ll be great
